Overview of PMS Studies

The PMS Studies Programme is sponsored by the UK MoD. The Platform Management Systems Cell is the centre of excellence for PMS and Human Factors in Marine Engineering for the Warship Support Agency (WSA).

PMS Studies aids the Defence Procurement Agency (DPA) Warship programmes with the acquisition of cost effective, robust, operable, and supportable through-life Integrated Platform Management Systems. A whole ship approach is adopted that meets the systems engineering requirements of smart acquisition.

The main aim of the PMS Studies contract is to de-risk the application of PMS technologies and philosophies to Royal Navy future warship procurement.

This is achieved through a process of risk identification and mitigation activities, based on the requirements for future warships. The tasks identified as mitigating risks are then presented to the MoD PMS community for prioritisation and approval. In this context, the PMS Studies 'product' takes various forms, such as software tools, knowledge databases, research studies and guidance documentation.
